Asaba, August 7, 2025 – The leadership team of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba on Thursday as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen HIV diagnosis and treatment services in Nigeria.
During the visit, the delegation toured the Centre for Disease Control and Research (CDCR) facility at FMC Asaba to inspect the newly installed 16-module Genexpert machine. The advanced diagnostic equipment is designed to facilitate rapid and accurate early infant diagnosis of HIV, enabling prompt treatment and improved outcomes for affected children.
The US CDC team was accompanied by representatives from the Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS), the National AIDS and STDs Control Programme (NASCP), and the State AIDS and STDs Control Programme (SASCP), underscoring the collaborative approach to tackling HIV/AIDS in the region.
Hospital management expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated their commitment to leveraging the new technology to enhance HIV diagnostic capacity and expand access to life-saving care.
