INAUGURATION OF LUNG CANCER MDT* *FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE, ASABA | 8TH SEPTEMBER, 2026*

The Management of Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, led by the Medical Director, *Dr. Ekeneam Omo*, inaugurated the *Lung Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)* on Tuesday, 8th September, 2026, in collaboration with *AstraZeneca Nigeria*. The MDT brings together specialists to review lung cancer cases and agree on the best treatment plan for each patient. This approach ensures early diagnosis, accurate staging, and better patient outcomes. *Objectives of the MDT:* 1. Optimal diagnosis and treatment planning 2. Evidence-based care in line with global guidelines 3. Staff capacity building on lung cancer management 4. Strengthened partnership with AstraZeneca for cancer care *Dr. Ugoeze Francis*, Consultant Pulmonologist, MDT Coordinator & Director, Centre for Disease Control and Research, welcomed participants and thanked AstraZeneca for supporting the initiative. A key highlight was a presentation by AstraZeneca on *"Advances in Targeted Therapy and Biomarker Testing in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer"* for both onsite and online participants. The *CMAC, Dr. James Ibuaku*, who represented the Medical Director, appreciated AstraZeneca and reaffirmed FMC Asaba’s commitment to quality, multidisciplinary cancer care. The inaugural session was a success and marks a new chapter in comprehensive lung cancer care at FMC Asaba.
