The palace welcomed the presence of The newly appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Medical Center Asaba, who is also National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Mary Idele Alile.
Dr Mary informed his majesty that she came to pay homage and fostered a collaborative relationship with the traditional institute of Asaba because it’s essential to work together to address the health challenges faced in Asaba and its environs.
She promised that FMC Asaba is committed to providing quality services to the people but requested his majesty’s insights and influence in the community in promoting health awareness, preventive measures, and the importance of utilizing health care services.
Finally, she emphasized the importance of a collaborative effort between the government and traditional institutions to create a healthier and more prosperous society.
Agu welcomed the madam chairperson and her entourage warmly.
“I draw strength from your presentation that health is an essential ingredient in our human existence and to that extent like you rightly posited, should be a right on its own,” Agu pointed out.
As a constitutional lawyer who had led advocacy for these rights, Agu believes it’s time to make health rights enforceable because the state of affairs of Medicare in Nigeria is concerning.
“There is HOPE in the Renewed Hope Agenda, and we want that to find expression in what you do in the federal medical center under your leadership. We want affordable Medicare that would be accessible not just for Asaba people but for all residents in Asaba, we want a favorable budget that would increase the infrastructural growth, and we want a place that people can look up to and believe that truly they can get cure from the medical center. We are fairly satisfied with the management of FMC Asaba but hope under your leadership, a greater mileage is achieved” HRM expressed.
Agu assured them of his support in terms of sensitization, creating awareness, and educating the people. He encouraged Dr Mary to chart a path of good leadership with visions that would positively impact FMC Asaba.
He wished her the best in her tenure and gave her the blessings of the land.
