FMC Asaba Hosts Flag-Off of Sheriff Free Medicare Project for All Deltans

Department of Paediatrics in Conjunction with the Management of Federal Medical Centre Asaba, today 25th Feb 2026, held a legacy lecture in honor of Late Professor Angela, Anene Okolo (MD, FWACP, FMCPaed, FRCPCH, LSM). Late Professor Okolo's contributions significantly advanced the new born care within our institution and across Nigeria. Prof. was a towering figure in neonatology, who stood at the intersection of science and humanity. The legacy lecture was centered on the pursuit of excellence embedded in Compassion and the contributions of late Prof. in the following areas: - Surfactant Replacement Therapy - Prevention and Treatment of Apnoea of Prematurity - Antenatal Corticosteroids and many others. The Ceremony featured dignitaries and prominent speakers. Prof. will greatly be missed and her legacies will continue to live on.

Federal Medical Centre Asaba proudly hosted the official kick-off of the Sheriff Free Medicare Project for All Deltans (SHEFMEPAD), a landmark healthcare outreach initiative aimed at delivering free medical and surgical services to residents across the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State.


The two-day medical outreach commenced on March 5–6, 2026, at FMC Asaba, Oshimili South LGA. The flag-off ceremony, held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 5, witnessed the presence of the hospital’s management, staff, community members, and key stakeholders.


This large-scale humanitarian intervention is designed to improve access to quality healthcare for vulnerable and underserved populations by offering free consultations, medications, and surgical procedures to beneficiaries.


The initiative is powered by the Dr Awunor Alexander Humanitarian Foundation in collaboration with the Kelvin Ojonugwa Akpala Foundation.


As a foremost tertiary healthcare institution in the region, FMC Asaba continues to demonstrate its dedication to impactful partnerships that expand healthcare access, strengthen community outreach, and enhance the overall wellbeing of the people of Delta State.
