Today, we join the global health community to observe *World Kidney Day*, a day dedicated to raising awareness about kidney health and the growing burden of *Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).*
*CKD* is a serious and increasingly common health challenge, affecting about 1 in 10 people worldwide. Often called a *_silent disease_*, kidney damage can develop gradually without noticeable symptoms until it becomes severe. If left untreated, CKD can lead to life-threatening complications including heart disease and kidney failure, where survival depends on treatments such as *Dialysis or Kidney Transplant.* Encouragingly, early detection can save lives.
At the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Asaba, we join the global call to raise awareness, promote early testing, and encourage healthier lifestyles that support kidney function.
Protect your kidneys today:
• Stay well hydrated
• Maintain healthy blood pressure and blood sugar levels
• Eat a balanced diet and limit excess salt
• Avoid misuse of medications
• Go for routine medical check-ups and screening
*Healthy kidneys are vital for a healthy life.* This World Kidney Day, let us take proactive steps to safeguard our kidney health and encourage our communities to do the same.
